GREEN WEDDING PLAN

by Sara Di Benedetto |

There's something magical about the idea of a wedding that reflects not only the love that binds us, but also our values and lifestyle.

On August 8, 2015, we organized our eco-minimalist wedding. It was a special day that left a gentle mark on the earth.

Celebrating an eco-minimalist wedding that highlights the beauty of simplicity, the importance of sustainability, and therefore respect for the earth we call home makes this day even more precious.

During the planning process, we focused on our passion for the environment and the philosophy of minimalism. In this guide, we'll share with you the steps we took to make this experience unforgettable and zero-impact.

Here are 8 beautiful and simple ideas to inspire you:

  1. A green location that speaks to the heart: from the beginning, we knew we wanted a place that would allow us to embrace the beauty of nature. We chose a secluded garden on the hills, surrounded by wild vegetation that eliminated the need for excessive decorations . Choosing an outdoor location allowed us to share our love with friends and family in an environment that already exuded magic. We didn't have a Plan B in case of bad weather—for those less adventurous, we suggest a safe alternative.
  2. Invitations that embrace technology and simplicity : we opted for digital invitations . Reaching guests via email reduced paper usage, lowered expenses, and allowed us to personalize our communication even more, integrating it with photos and memories . This eco-friendly connection with loved ones made everyone feel part of a special journey from the very beginning.
  3. Secondhand clothes and a free dress code for guests: our choice of attire was another opportunity to express our worldview and minimalist lifestyle . Guests were left free to choose their own style, without any specific theme ; in fact, we suggested wearing comfortable clothing to fully enjoy the natural surroundings and dance peacefully on the somewhat uneven floor.
  4. Decorations that reflect nature : Our wedding details were a celebration of the essential . We chose reusable , natural , zero-waste , and strictly plastic-free decorations. Wood, raffia, and small potted plants brought an extra touch of simplicity to our celebration. The fabric tableware (tablecloths, napkins) , ceramic tableware, and table linens , as well as the glassware, gave the dinner an elegant style . The minimalist decorations not only conserved resources but also created a warm, intimate atmosphere that enveloped our guests.
  5. Flavors that speak of the land : choosing a sustainable menu was an important step for us. We also selected the venue because it offered a restaurant that emphasizes local and organic ingredients . This choice not only provided a delicious culinary experience, but also underscored our dedication to an environmentally friendly wedding.

  6. Memories that last and do good: as an alternative to the traditional wedding favor , our wedding keepsakes for guests were carefully designed to reflect our commitment to sustainability and altruism. In addition to a monetary donation to a nonprofit that works to support children in Italy and around the world, we gave our guests the small potted plants used to decorate the tables , symbols of growth and enduring love, as a tangible reminder of the special day. For the friends who spent the night with us under the stars , in our small private campsite, we provided tents to sleep in, which then became gifts for their future travels.

  7. Photographs that capture the soul: a dear photographer friend gifted us natural and candid shots that captured the true essence of the day, including the newlyweds, their families, and friends. The photos became a precious memento of a unique and authentic moment.
  8. A journey towards zero footprint : we encouraged our guests to share transportation to reach the wedding venue in the most eco-friendly way possible.

Our eco-minimalist wedding was much more than an event; it was a journey toward realizing a vision that reflects our values and our love of nature . Every detail held meaning, every choice contributed to creating a unique and authentic experience with a minimal impact on our planet.

If you too desire a wedding that celebrates natural beauty and a love for the land, our story can certainly inspire and guide you towards a special day that will speak to both your heart and the Earth's soul.
